Ballads of sound and word

With his four ballads, Chopin created a musical genre which to this day remains unsurpassed.(eto nado skorrigirowat: W KOTOROM ON-Chopin remains unsurpassed) Although in no way programmatic music, these genial works were likely inspired by literature. Chopin biographers assume the works of a friend of Chopin, Adam Mickiewicz, whom he greatly admired and whose work finds resonance in Chopin?s music time and again, primarily inspired the second and third ballads.

Both poems will be recited in the concert, along with two Lithuanian legends that we assume provided the literary stimulus for the first and fourth ballads.

Other famous poems by Mickiewicz will be recited, interspersed by Chopin?s Mazurkas.
